Don't ask me, I just work here

Yesterday was the best day.  We’re feeling the pressure of the impending move to be sure & we decided to make a day out of packing as much San Francisco into a day as was humanly possible.

We started off at Dynamo for coffee and donuts, and later moved on to Pal’s Take Away for an amazing steak sandwich.  Then it was off to the Ferry Building where I purchased an adorable bud vase from Heath Ceramics…just a wee little thing to remind me of home when I’m on the opposite coast. I can get quite sentimental you see. From there we made our way to the House of Shields for a little nip.  It was the big re-opening & guess who was the very first person to step inside.  If you guessed me dear reader, bravo! The fantastic drinks were only rivaled by the beautiful decore & an appearance by Chef Leary looking dapper indeed in a finely tailored suit.  Not only that, but we were treated to a rare appearance by our old friend of MissionMission fame.  Drinks were had, catching up ensued, credit cards were hastily returned to the improper patrons, but all in all a lovely time.

We then crossed town at a snail’s pace and let me tell you dear reader, there was much cussing and fist shaking to be had from your humble narrator.  Arriving (much later) to the event known as Night Life at the California Academy of Sciences, we thoroughly enjoyed the planetarium show and we even got to see Claude the albino aligator.  The sunken swamp area was always my favorite as small child, and I was thrilled to see that they kept the seahorse railing around the sanctuary. We were both intent on visiting the African room which was just as wonderful as we both remembered.  Being in that room brought back lovely childhood memories of the love we felt for this place.  By now we were quite hungry, so we braved the rainy weather and made our way to Baker and Banker for a fantastic meal.  Course after delicious course arrived at our tables and we wasted no time in scarfing it down in record time.  Not only was the food amazing, but the service was simply top drawer.  Chef Banker himself came out to inquire about the meal he had so lovingly just prepared.  We swilled down some coffee not only to wash down the two (blush) desserts we pigged out on on, but more importantly to stay awake.  We’re old for crying out loud, it was past our bedtime you see.

Moving ever onward, we arrived at the midnight showing of Tron at the Castro Theater and man was it outta sight.  Highly recommended! Although I must admit it was my first 3D movie and it made me a bit queasy at times.

If you find yourself near any of the aforementioned establishments, do yourself a favor and check them out.  You never realize how little you take advantage of all of the amazing things around you until you loose them.
